tech point is on the subject of: Washing and Inspecting Your Paint
- I use two buckets to wash my cars, one bucket has clear water in it, the other bucket has car washing soap in it. I put the clean sponge in the bucket with soap in it.
- After I have washed part of the car I put the dirty sponge in the bucket with clear water to clean out the sponge. I never put the dirty sponge in the bucket with soap in it.
- Never use dish washing soap to wash your car, it removes the wax, and we don’t want to remove the wax.
- It is hot here most of the time, so I wash my car in my garage. If you don’t want to wash your car in the garage, then maybe wash it in the morning and in the shade.
- We have hard water here which also makes water spots. Keep spraying the car with water to keep the car from drying and getting water spots. If you do get water spots, I have had good luck with detailer to remove the water spots.
- If your windshield is hot and you spray cold water on it, it will CRACK!. Spray just a little water on the windshield until you get the windshield cooled down.
- After you get your car washed you need to dry it as fast as you can so you don’t get the water spots. You can use a leaf blower to blow the water off or microfiber towels to dry your car.
- You need to inspect the surface of the paint with your eyes and hands. Put a plastic glove on your hand to see if the surface feels rough. If so, you have contaminants on the paint that washing could not remove.
- Also look for scratches, swirls, oxidation, and stains in your paint.
- At the next meeting I will talk about how to repair the paint.
