Yesterday Pat & I joined a group of fellow members on the day trip that Jim Haney planned for us all. We had a total of 10 of America’s sports cars show up at the Church at Arrowhead for the trip. Since we were traversing the valley to Apache Junction/Superstition Mountain area, Jim wanted to ensure that everyone was as safe as possible. We split into two groups Jim leading one & John Seeger leading the other. Arriving safely at the Goldfield Ghost Town, we spent a couple of hours wandering around looking at all of the sights. Pat and I did get an opportunity to sample some local ice cream.
After posing for a group photo, we drove to Tortilla Flats for lunch (our plan). Pat is fairly certain that this part of the drive was a conspiracy on Jim’s part. It is a half hour drive with a lot of curves, switchback and of course two spots where there were bridges that only allowed a single car at a time. Once we got to Tortilla Flats, we found that everyone in Arizona decided to come for lunch on the same day. Jim had called ahead for reservations and was told “no problem, just show up, we are open until 6pm”. The wait time was 45 minutes to an hour.
I would like to thank Jim for all of his efforts in planning this for the club. All of us that attended really enjoyed ourselves. For any and all of you that thought about joining in but decided not to you missed a fun trip with a great bunch of people, your Sun Country Corvette Club friends.
Thanks again Jim.
