Replacing The Battery In A C6 or C7 Fob
How do you know when to replace the battery in your fob? You try to open the
car door but you can’t open the doors or the back of your Corvette. You use the
key in the fob to open the back and you pull the cable to open the driver’s door.
You get in the Corvette and push the start button. The car doesn’t start and you
get “No Fob Detected” on the Drivers Information Center.
On C6 Corvettes you open the glove box and put your fob in the slot with the flags
on the fob facing the left. On C7 Corvettes you put the fob in the slot on the right
side of the steering column with the C7 flag facing down. Push the fob all the way
in the slot. Now push the start button. If the engine starts I would replace the
battery in the fob.
Now how do you replace the battery in the fob?
Press on the button on the fob just below the chrome part of the fob and pull the
chrome part of the fob out of the fob. Turn this part 90 degrees and use the oval
base to separate the 2 halves of the fob. I use a small straight bladed screwdriver to
help separate the rest of the fob case. DO NOT TOUCH ANY OF THE CIRCUITRY OF
THE FOB!!! Static from your hands could damage the fob. Both the C6 and C7 fobs
take a CR2032 battery.
Align the key release button with the slot it has to go in and snap the fob back together.
This is a job for finesse does not force.
Next month I will talk about replacing the battery on the C8 fob. It takes a CR2450
battery.
