Dedication & Placement Ceremony of Brick Commemorating Don Tobin's service in the US Army; Purchased by SCCC
SCCC members came out this morning to attend the placement of a plaque/brick in honor of Don Tobin at the Veterans Memorial in Anthem, Az. We met as scheduled on the Carefree Highway and proceeded in a caravan in our "Classic Corvette Fashion" a short distance to Anthem's Veterans Memorial Park. The ceremony at the memorial started at 9:00am as they began the placement of 39 Bricks all to honor military veterans. Family and friends from all 39 recipients were in attendance. I think our group to honor Don Tobin was by far the largest. Following the short ceremony, we had a total of 18 members then proceed down the road to have an early lunch at the Roadrunner Saloon in nearby New River. As always on these types of club adventures, Don had us scheduled for a visit to the local Ice Cream parlor. We finished lunch at 10:30am and the Ice Cream Parlor didn't open until 12 noon, so we missed out on ice cream once again.I'd like to first thank Don Tobin for his military service for our country. Don served in the United States Army from 1967- 1970 and is a Vietnam Veteran. We also want to thank Don and his wife Pat for all that they have done for SCCC and for all that they continue to do. If your travels ever take you down Interstate 17 near Anthem, I encourage you to stop by the Veterans Memorial and check it out. We now have a total of 3 members with Bricks permanently placed there, Dan Murphy, Ken Larson, and Don Tobin. Thanks,JimPat and I (Don) have been members of Sun Country Corvette Club since late 2006. Over these many years we have made so many friends that we feel like SCCC is our family. I have held many positions within the club: Director of Membership, Treasurer and Vice President/Activity Director and I have enjoyed each and every experience.Sun Country Corvette Club has found a very unique way to thank me for my service to the club. You all authorized the purchase of a commemorative brick to be placed at the Veterans Memorial in Anthem, AZ. This brick memorializes my service to the United States when I like so many others accepted the draft into US Army. Ultimately, I was stationed in the Republic of Vietnam where I served for a little over two years.I have been honored to serve Sun Country Corvette Club and I am honestly humbled by this recognition that you have bestowed on me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.Don Tobin
