Phoenix Veteran’s Day Parade – 2023
Yesterday, November 11th was Veteran’s Day. Originally, it was called Armistice Day. The signing of the Armistice brought about the cessation of the fighting between the allies & Germany and ultimately the end of World War I. The signing took place on November 11, 1918, at 5:45 am and took effect at 11am the same day.In November of 1919, Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11th as Armistice Day. In 1954 a bill was proposed to Congress to change Armistice Day to Veterans Day. The bill was passed and signed into law by President Dwight Eisenhower in October 1954.As we have been the last couple of years, Sun Country Corvette Club was invited to once again participate in the parade. As we travel the parade route, I really enjoy seeing the spectators waving US Flags and hear them yelling “Thank you for your Service” as well as “USA, USA”. On both sides of the street there are not only other Veterans but also families even some with pictures of Veteran family members that have passed. The route includes the VA hospital and there are always some patients along that section of the parade. This year we had 12 cars & as event captain I would like to recognize and personally thank these participants. They were:Richard Ferguson Dan TeegenBob & Judy Glass Jim StrongJim Haney Ben DyerDennis & JoDee Williams Paul GorichJohn Strouse + friend Joe ShaughnessyStephen Boyle Don TobinThank you so very much for making this event another success - Sun Country has always been the greatest!.
